Position OverviewThe ANU School of Art Painting Workshop seeks an early to mid career artist and experienced studio teacher to contribute on a part time basis to the School's program of teaching, supervision and research in painting and related media.
Painting at the ANU delivers a highly respected, dynamic program of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in studio practice and the theory, history and contemporary field of painting. Our program is designed to foster individuality, diversity and independent explorative thinking. This position involves undergraduate teaching and supervision of Honours and postgraduate students.
We welcome applications for this part time, continuing position from artists with an active painting-related practice, experience in tertiary studio teaching and an ability to work cooperatively with our dedicated team. The ANU School of Art is recognised for its strong specialist culture of practice-led research and offers ready access to significant national institutions and related academic scholarship.

Role statementPURPOSE STATEMENT:

Lecturers in Painting at the School of Art are expected to contribute to the teaching effort of the School and maintain a research profile based on an active studio practice, exhibitions and professional activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS:

Position Dimensions and Relationships:
The 50% Lecturer in Painting will be involved in the design and delivery of undergraduate courses in painting as a studio practice and in the theory, history and contemporary practice of painting. They will supervise Honours and post graduate students and contribute to the continuing development of a culture of art practice as research

Role Statement:

Under the direction of the Head of Painting:
1. Prepare and deliver projects and courses within a studio based undergraduate curriculum incorporating lectures, seminars, tutorials, and develop course materials in consultation with colleagues.
2. Supervise the program of study of Honours and postgraduate students.
3. Maintain an active art practice, with regular exhibitions and related professional activities.
4. Assess student work in studio practice and studio theory.
5. Engage in student consultations, advice, mentoring.
6. Undertake administrative roles in the workshop and School, including committee work.
7. Attend workshop, School and College meetings.
8. Other duties consistent with the classification of this position.

Selection criteria 
 1. Higher Degree in Visual Art or equivalent professional experience.
2. Demonstrated experience and skills in teaching a progressive, project-based studio program in painting, and a commitment to fostering a diversity of art practices reflective of contemporary culture and ideas.
3. A demonstrable record of active art practice, involving regular solo and group exhibitions.
4. An effective working knowledge of a range of painting practices and material techniques, and the history, theory and contemporary practice of visual art.
5. Experience in Mac and/or PC operating systems and an awareness of University administrative procedures.
6. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and a willingness to contribute to administration and outreach.
7. A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a university context, and a committment to OH&S principles related to studio management and other art practices and processes.
