Since its inception in 2001, the School of Population Health has established itself as a leading centre of public health teaching and research that, by influencing health care reform both in Australia and abroad, can improve the lives of people around the world. The School is one of seven within The University of Queensland's Faculty of Health Sciences.
The Pacific Malaria Initiative Support Centre (PacMlSC) is a Consortium comprising the School of Population Health of the University of Queensland (SPH) as the lead member of a consortium, with the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) and the Australian Army Malaria Institute (AAMI).
The objectives of PacMISC are to provide flexible, highly-focussed, demand-driven, locally-appropriate and cost-effective program management, training and technical assistance to partner governments in order to achieve the overall goal and objectives of country National Malaria Programs whilst at the same time contributing to health systems strengthening and human resource development.
The Role: The successful applicant will be responsible for all operational aspects of the PacMISC operations and for providing leadership and senior management capacity development support to the malaria programmes in both countries in a health systems strengthening approach. The Technical Director will be the principal liaison point between the School of Population Health, MSC, Malaria Reference Group, consortium partners, AusAID, the National Malaria Programs in Solomon Islands and Vanuatu and the Malaria Steering Committees and other stakeholders.
The Person: Applicants possession of a postgraduate qualification in medicine, Public Health or relevant discipline with at least 5 years experience, and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training; as well as Expertise in senior management of public health programmes in development settings and capacity development of management teams at national and provincial levels is essential.
Remuneration: This is a full time, fixed term appointment until 30 June 2011 at HEW level 9. The remuneration package will be in the range of $87,192 - $92,267 per annum, plus employer superannuation contributions up to 9%.
