Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering (Water Resources and Environment)
Job Reference: 5613 Faculty of Computing, Health and Science
School of Engineering
Joondalup Campus
Overview
The School of Engineering at Edith Cowan University (ECU) was established in 1991. It currently offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in civil, mechanical, mechatronics, electrical power, electronics and communications, control and automation, computer systems, maintenance engineering, and motorsports. It is the first engineering school in WA to offer the ‘3+2’ model of engineering education, in addition to the standard 4-year engineering degree courses on offer at ECU. The School is currently expanding its teaching and research facilities due to the addition of a new engineering building which will be completed in 2011. The successful applicant will be able to play an active role in the development of these facilities in civil engineering.
Civil Engineering at ECU is committed to the development of synergies with the resource-based industries in Western Australia through research and collaboration opportunities in areas such as infrastructural developments of ports and harbours, road, rail and runway systems, dams and reservoirs, mining and mineral processing, as well as urban infrastructural developments. The focus of the School’s direction for progress is on the use and development of sustainable technologies in both teaching and research. Suitable candidates with a passion for teaching and collaborative research are encouraged to apply. We are particularly keen to expand our staffing profile in water resources and environment (hydraulic engineering, irrigation and drainage, hydrological engineering, water resource planning and management, environmental engineering, etc.), but the position is not restricted to these areas.
ECU provides for flexible appointments that can support work-life balance needs. Arrangements can be negotiated to accommodate family roles as well as strong connections with professional consulting and/or industry engagement. ECU offers flexible academic career options including that of ‘practitioner scholar’. This type of appointment provides appropriate recognition of professional skills in career progression.
The new position is located at the Joondalup Campus which is about 25 km north of the Perth CBD. Joondalup is a rapidly growing regional centre and supports a wide range of facilities for business, living and recreation. It is close to the northern beaches, and accessible via freeway and rapid rail connections to Perth.
Applications are encouraged from suitably qualified people who have an established record of teaching and/or research in Civil Engineering; or from practicing engineers with a substantial record of professional work experience as a Civil Engineer.
