Salary: $52,742 - $71,571 p.a. (pro rata) plus 9% super. 

The Family Violence and Problem Gambling study has been funded as a Linkage Project under the Australian Research Council's National Competitive Grants Program (Grant number LP 0989331), and is due to commence in mid 2010. Among other things, the aim of the Linkage Project scheme is to encourage and develop long-term strategic research alliances between higher education organisations and other organisations, including within industry and end-users, in order to apply advanced knowledge to problems and/or to provide opportunities to obtain national economic, social or cultural benefits. This study primarily aims to:

1)  Systematically establish the prevalence of the co-occurrence of problem gambling and family violence in a range of help-seeking populations across Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand and to determine the way in which the co-morbid conditions of problematic alcohol and drug use and psychological symptoms co-vary with problem gambling and family violence;

2)  Determine the impacts of problem gambling and family violence on gambling-related family impacts and the way in which the co-morbid conditions affect these family impacts; and

3)  Determine the impacts of problem gambling and family violence on gambling-related coping strategies of family members, and the way in which the co-morbid conditions affect these strategies.

This position will provide project management support to the Chief Investigators located in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, for the Australian arm of the study, which is also being conducted in Hong Kong. The position also entails liaison with multiple data collection sites and both community and government partners.
