The new Cancer Epidemiology and Cancer Services Research Group has been established as a partnership between the University and the Cancer Institute NSW. The overarching aim of this novel partnership is to conduct practice and policy relevant epidemiological and health services research to improve outcomes for people with cancer.  The group will develop programs across a broad spectrum of aetiological and applied epidemiological research, including research that addresses the causes of cancer, cancer prevention, screening and early detection, cancer care and outcomes. A major focus of interest is the use of population based datasets and data linkage for epidemiological and cancer services research, and to develop research capacity in this field. 

 

We are seeking a number of enthusiastic, results driven academic staff to join this new research group and contribute to the development and implementation of a collaborative research program with the Cancer Institute NSW.  You will have the opportunity to initiate and develop your own research program within the broad field of cancer epidemiology and cancer services research.  Although a research focussed role, there will also be an opportunity to contribute to teaching, curriculum development and postgraduate student supervision within epidemiology and public health.

 

To succeed you will have doctoral qualifications in epidemiology, biostatistics or public health and a demonstrated interest in cancer epidemiology and cancer services research.  Experience in design and analysis of epidemiological studies is required as is some knowledge of data linkage and advanced skills in biostatistical analyses. 

 

For appointment at a senior level is it expected that you will have extensive experience in the area of cancer epidemiology and cancer services research and previous experience working with large data sets and data linkage. You will have a substantial track record of peer reviewed publications, a record of successful grant acquisition, and a well developed network within cancer epidemiology. Substantial teaching experience and postgraduate supervision would be highly regarded.

The position is fixed term for three years subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees with the possibility of further offer of employment dependent upon funding and need. Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience.


Remuneration package
:  a competitive remuneration package is available (consisting of a base salary, leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
