The Climate Change @ Work
Conference<http://www.wrc.org.au/event-details.php?eventid=79> promotes achieving sustainability in the workplace through sustainable leadership and management practice. From important HR Management issues, such as how sustainability practices will affect workplace relations, skill demands and jobs, to operational issues such as achieving carbon reduction in the workplace. Another key management issue presented at the conference is how to promote, communicate and engage your employees in sustainable development. While many companies have begun the task of creating a more sustainable workplace, this year's conference builds on past years with the latest developments.
The main themes of the 2010 conference will be green jobs and carbon reduction in the workplace with case studies from the different intermediaries driving sustainability in Australian workplaces e.g. Group Training Organisations, Employers and Unions. This year our some of our key speakers include international speaker Michael Renner from the Worldwatch Institute in Washington, Sharan Burrow, ACTU and International Trade Union Confederation President and David Gregory, Director - Workplace Policy, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
About some of the speakers
Michael Renner will be discussing the relationship between environment and employment something he has been analysing since the early 1990s. In 2007-2008, Michael was the lead author of a report commissioned by the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Labour Organization. Green Jobs: Towards Decent Work in a Sustainable, Low-Carbon World<http://www.unep.org/labour_environment/features/greenjobs.asp, which was released at UN Headquarters in New York in September 2008. Michael has also briefed Al Gore on international green jobs developments.
Sharan Burrow, who recently addressed the plenary of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen is extremely involved in the push for green jobs and skills. Sharan is also a founding member of the Southern Cross Climate Coalition, formed last June 2008 by the ACTU, ACF, the Climate Institute and ACOSS to respond to the vast challenges of climate change in Australia and to promote ideas and strategies for a greener, environmentally sustainable economy.
David Gregory, will be speaking about the environmental sustainability initiatives/policies been driven by ACCI from an Industrial Relations and Employer perspective.
Complementing these presentations we will have a number of case studies from companies who will be showcasing how they have driven and developed sustainable business practices in their organisations.
