Introduction
Queensland’s Number One Distance Education provider, the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), is a leader in flexible learning; has a significant profile in regionally relevant research and is closely engaged with its communities.

The university has over 26000 enrolments, including around 7500 international students. More than 120 nationalities are represented and about 5000 international students study USQ programs in their home countries. Approximately 75% of USQ students study via distance education, and USQ provides off-campus education for students in over 80 countries.

USQ has changed significantly over the past 40 years – building its research and postgraduate programs, expanding its international profile, and growing as a multi-campus institution – but it has retained its foundation values of putting the student first, building employment readiness in its graduates and building community.

USQ combines flexible study modes with innovate programs in an environment in which students can challenge themselves to reach their full potential. USQ aims for its graduates to have the skills, experience and confidence they need to be employment ready.

Background

The University of Southern Queensland is based in Toowoomba, Queensland. The institution was established in 1967 as the Queensland Institute of Technology (Darling Downs), and in 1971 became the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education. The institute was redesignated as a university in 1992. The university now also has campuses in Hervey Bay and Springfield, and is Queensland’s Number One Distance Education provider.

The University offers a strong suite of programs provided through five faculties and a number of specialist academic departments and sections. USQ has developed a strong research base, and hosts a number of influential research centres, including the Australian Centre for Sustainable Catchments (ACSC) and the Centre of Excellence in Engineered Fibre Composites (CEEFC).

USQ's programs and courses are delivered via its five faculties and a number of specialist academic departments and sections, including:

·   The Faculty of Arts, incorporating Humanities and Mass Communication and the School of Creative Arts

·   The Faculty of Business which incorporates the USQ Australian Graduate School of Business and the newly developed USQ School of Law

·   The Faculty of Education

·   The Faculty of Sciences

·   The Faculty of Engineering and Surveying

·   The Centre for Australian Indigenous Knowledges

·   The Continuing and Professional Education (ContEd) department offering Professional Development Courses including IPAA, CPA, ICAA, CPE courses and single subjects

·   The Learning and Teaching Support Unit (LTSU) providing university preparation programs, academic learning support and academic development initiatives

·       The Distance and e-Learning Centre (DeC), that develops and distributes all USQ study materials and manages a range of support services for off-campus students, including residential schools and teletutorials.
