Winner
announced for Lecturer of the Year
Queensland’s
Julie Walker will be awarded the 2008 Lecturer of the year title on Thursday 5 February
at the University of Queensland.
UniJobs executive Director, Jarrod Kanizay will host the 11am prize giving
ceremony which will see Julie receive a certificate and a trip to Fiji, after
beating 2,500 lecturers from universities around Australia.
More than 60,000 votes were cast by students and staff from around the nation –
it is the only teaching excellence award in Australia which encourages students
to actively acknowledge their lecturers.
Only 20 nominations separated the top three academics with The
University of Newcastle's Dr Wendy Amosa and Australian Catholic University's
Murray Bardwell placing a close second and third.
Lecturer of
the Year is an initiative from UniJobs, Australia’s University Job Website, and
has become a highly regarded concept as it gives direct recognition of teaching
excellence from a student/ staff perspective – no other national higher
academic award gives this unique insight into Australia’s leading lecturers.
University dignitaries and colleagues will also be attending the morning
presentation on Thursday 5 February at 11 am, to celebrate Queensland’s
academic success.
